14 May 2026 – Mr. Thang Khan Dal, an elderly businessman and owner of the Cherry Hotel in Tedim town, died yesterday, while in the custody of the Zomi Federal Union/People’s Police Force-Zoland (ZFU/PPF-Zoland).
He was detained two days prior on 11 May, according to the statement released yesterday by the Zomi Federal Union.
The ZFU/PPF-Zoland, an armed resistance group operating in Chin State, accused the man, who was over 70, of acting as an informant for the military regime’s State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC).
The group claims he continued to share information with the SSPC military despite receiving three prior warnings.
According to the ZFU/PPF-Zoland’s official statement, Mr. Thang Khan Dal, who suffered from diabetes, hypertension, and stroke-related illness, died from a reported brain hemorrhage while in detention.
The group noted that he had appeared visibly unwell at a church gathering in Tuiphum on 3 May.
The ZFU/PPF-Zoland is one of several armed resistance groups fighting the military junta, which is often referred to as the SSPC or SAC. – Reporting by Daniel
