14 May 2026 – More than 800 civilians from Rihkhawdar town and nearby villages along the India–Myanmar border in Falam township, Chin State, have reportedly fled into Mizoram following renewed military offensives by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC).
Reports by Zonet Cable TV indicated that SSPC forces are advancing toward Tio, a key border trade town, as part of ongoing efforts to regain control of territories previously lost in Chin State.
The latest displacement comes shortly after SSPC forces recaptured Falam town, one of the major towns in Chin State. Military preparations are now believed to be focused on Tio, an important trade and transportation hub along the India–Myanmar border.
Fearing renewed clashes and possible airstrikes, residents from Tio area and surrounding villages have been fleeing through the Zokhawthar border crossing into Mizoram in large numbers.
Reports indicated that more than 800 displaced people have already crossed the border, and the number is expected to increase as the military situation continues to escalate.
Most displaced families are currently sheltering with relatives and host communities in Mizoram. Local civil society groups, including the Young Mizo Association (YMA), are providing emergency assistance such as food supplies and temporary shelter.
Reports have also emerged that SSPC forces may be preparing additional military operations targeting Tonzang town, raising concerns that fighting could intensify across northern Chin State and trigger further displacement along the border region. – Reporting by Ben
