5 May 2026 – The Thantlang Township Council/Chinland Defence Force-Thantlang (CDF-Thantlang) in Thantlang township, Chin State, has stepped up efforts to strengthen relations with civil society organisations in Mizoram State, India, calling for continued good neighbourly cooperation, according to local sources.
During recent engagements with Mizoram-based civil society groups, the council expressed its intention to maintain positive relations and encouraged counterpart organizations to uphold mutual good neighbor practices.
According to The Lairam Times, on 28 April, the council met with the Young Lai Association (Central YLA), the largest NGO in Lawngtlai District, at its office in Lawngtlai. In the first week of May, a follow-up meeting was also held with the Young Mizo Association (YMA) Thingsai branch in Thingsai village.
Key issues discussed during the meetings included anti-drug efforts, the situation of internally displaced persons (IDPs), the current political and security context, and measures to further strengthen cooperation in the future.
The council also presented tokens of appreciation to CYLA and YMA in recognition of their collaboration in anti-drug initiatives. During the discussions, the council stated: “We would like to be good neighbors to you, and we also invite you to remain good neighbors to us.”
In addition, separate meetings were held with groups supporting displaced people from Hakha-Thantlang in Lawngtlai, as well as IDP leaders in Sangau and Thingsai. – Reporting by Ben
