4 May 2026 – Advance elements of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military forces began entering Taal village, Falam township along the Falam-Hakha highway this morning.
The column, which departed Falam town on 26 April, is attempting to secure control over the Falam-Hakha Road, a key objective in the regime’s campaign in northern Chin State.
However, the 15-mile advance to Taal took the SSPC nine days due to sustained and intense resistance from Chin joint forces, who are believed to have inflicted significant casualties on the regime troops.
As of 4 May, only forward troops have managed to enter Taal, while the main column remains delayed by ongoing losses and continued resistance along the route.
Clashes are ongoing in the Falam-Hakha corridor as local defense forces work to prevent the SSPC from consolidating control.
This push follows the SSPC’s reported recapture of Falam town on 25 April 2026. The broader SSPC campaign in the region, which began in late October 2025, has focused on retaking Falam and the strategic Surbung Airport.
Throughout its operations, the SSPC has relied heavily on aerial power and advanced drones. The conflict in Chin State remains tense, with reports detailing escalating SSPC aerial surveillance and airstrikes in the area, leading to civilian casualties and property destruction. – Reporting by Daniel
