30 April 2026 — A large State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military convoy, estimated at around 500 personnel and more than 30 vehicles, has reportedly advanced toward Magway Region, raising concerns over a potential escalation in operations.
According to initial reports, the convoy departed from Pyin Oo Lwin on 25 April and arrived at Light Infantry Battalion 99 in Meiktila on 26 April. It resumed movement at approximately 6:00 am on 29 April and reached Kyaukpadaung later that afternoon, where it reportedly stayed overnight.
By the morning of 30 April, the convoy was said to have reached the Seikphyu–Pauk road junction. Early reports suggest it may proceed toward Seikphyu and possibly continue toward Saw township, although this remains unconfirmed.
Separately, on 29 April, a Y-8 transport aircraft reportedly delivered personnel, salaries, and weapons to Artillery Battalion 368 in Kyaukhtu, without accompanying food supplies. Sources indicated that these movements could be linked to additional troop deployments in the area.
Observers are monitoring whether further reinforcements will be transported by helicopter to Kyaukhtu. There are also unconfirmed reports that units near Gangaw have been placed on standby.
Local sources warned that the reported influx of weapons and ammunition in Kyaukhtu could heighten the risk of artillery attacks in nearby areas.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and monitor both ground and air activity, as military operations may intensify in the coming days. – Reporting by Ben
