12 April 2026 — A pattern of military surveillance followed by deadly airstrikes has been reported in the Mindat area, Chin State, heightening fears among residents of aerial threats.
A UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) launched from the Kyaukhtu-based Artillery Battalion No. 368 began conducting surveillance, primarily monitoring the A Nyar Ngar village tract and western parts of Mindat township today.
This activity mirrored the day before: similar reconnaissance occurred on 11 April, and was subsequently followed that night by airstrikes on Mindat town. Three State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) jet fighters reportedly carried out approximately eight bombing runs.
The air attacks caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure, with reports indicating more than 20 civilian homes and buildings were hit, along with four private vehicles. Initial, unverified reports suggest that civilian casualties may have occurred.
The repeated air attacks on Mindat are part of a broader, sustained campaign of violence against civilians in Chin State. Just months earlier, in October 2025, junta aircraft conducted multiple airstrikes on Mindat and other townships like Matupi and Hakha, which resulted in at least nine civilian deaths, including children, and injuries to around 50 people.
Those attacks targeted schools, homes, and ceremonies, leading Chin resistance groups to assert they were deliberate attacks on civilians, causing widespread displacement.
The ongoing threats have forced residents in the A Nyar Ngar area and Mindat to exercise heightened caution and remain alert to potential aerial dangers. – Reporting by Daniel
