30 March 2026 — The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) authorities in Gangaw town, Magway Region, have intensified security across the town following the arrest of a member of a local defence force at a military checkpoint on the outskirts, local sources reported.

The incident occurred on 29 March near the “We Love Gangaw” bridge, when two members of a local defence force approached the checkpoint. One was arrested, while the other escaped into the town.

Following the arrest, SSPC deployed additional forces at major intersections and key locations. Vehicles, motorcycles, and pedestrians are being thoroughly checked, and residents are largely restricted from leaving their homes.

Initial reports indicate that the arrested individual belonged to Gangaw District Battalion 4. SSPC authorities have not yet released further details regarding the operation.

Local residents expressed concern over the heightened security measures, noting that movement within the town has been significantly restricted. – Reporting by Ben
