25 February 2026 — The Kanpetlet Township People’s Administration Team issued a public warning that residents of Kanpetlet town, Chin State, will face fines if they fail to comply with new fire prevention measures.
The official statement issued on 24 February has instructed all residents to clean their properties and clear away flammable materials to mitigate fire risks, particularly as the summer season approaches.
The mandatory cleanup period is set for 26 February through 30 March 2026.
The administration warned that any household that fails to complete the cleanup by the deadline will be subject to a fine of 200,000 kyat.
The new directive follows a series of recent fire incidents in the township, including two houses destroyed in January and another house that burned down on 20 February.
The Township Department of Humanitarian and Disaster Management has provided emergency food aid to the families whose homes were damaged by the recent fires. – Reporting by Ben
