One Killed, Eight Injured in Rih Car Accident

20 October 2012: A private jeep carrying goods plunged into a 50-foot deep gorge in Tedim township of Chin State last Tuesday, killing one woman and injuring eight travellers.

Out of nine passengers in the vehicle, Ms Cing Sian Lun, 21, died instantly while others including an 8-year-old child, Hang Cin Mang, got injured as the accident happened on the Indo-Burma Rih Road No. 2 near Laitui village, according to the Chin World Media.

Sources confirmed that the accident was mainly due to the poor conditions of ‘unmaintained’ trade road connecting Chin State of Burma and Mizoram State of India mainly.

“The Rih road gets worse during the rainy season and it is not properly maintained. We have a series of accidents happening throughout the year. Road conditions across Chin State are so much neglected that the Chin passengers suffer like this,” a Chin community leader told Chinland Guardian.

The injured passengers including the jeep driver have been taken to the General Hospital in Tedim town, according to the Chin World Media.
