Chin Boxer Participated in World Boxing Championships in Turkey

16 May 2011: Rising Chin female boxer Nelly Bawi Nei Sin, with another female Nan Thet Htar San, of Karen ethnicity, took part in the Women’s Junior and Youth World Championships held in Antalya, Turkey from 24-30 April.

Nelly Bawi Nei Sin, daughter of Pu Than Ceu and Pi Hrang Nei Kil from Sadaw village, Kalay Township, arrived in the Eurasian country for the first time on 13 April as one of the two female boxers representing Burma in the international boxing competition, according to the Chin World Media.

She said in the interview conducted by the Chin World Media: “I started boxing in 2009 and became one of Myanmar selected boxers after being trained for two years. I felt blessed that I had a chance to take part in the international competition this year.”

When asked about her passion for boxing, she said: “I used to play football but my father, a well-known footballer, advised me to join boxing instead, after he watched me play football properly.”

The Chin boxer (48 kg) was quoted as saying that she was beaten in the first round by an opponent from Romania.

In the interview, Nelly stressed that she has got to work harder in order to achieve her goals in the future.

A total of 151 boxers from 40 countries took part in the under-18 youth championship that took place at the Kepez Belediye Kapali Sport Salon in Antalya, Turkey.

The Myanmar Boxing Federation has stepped up its best efforts to win in the upcoming 26th SEA Games to be held in Indonesia this year and in the 27th in Burma in 2013, according to U Nay Zaw, MBF Associate Secretary.
