29 April 2026 — The Chin People’s Union/Chin People’s Army (CPU/CPA) has warned of a possible escalation of fighting in southern parts of Chin State, citing increased troop movements and expanding military operations by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) forces.

The SSPC column of approximately 200 troops has reached Kan Gyi village in Saw township, Magway Region—within striking distance of Mindat town—raising concerns over a potential ground offensive.

Although no direct assault on Mindat has yet been reported, resistance forces have begun reinforcing defensive positions in anticipation of further escalation. A CPU/CPA official said allied groups are coordinating closely to defend existing territories and resist further advances.

Local sources indicated that the military column may be conducting area-clearance operations around Kyaukhtu, while additional reinforcements could be mobilised from military-linked facilities in Pauk township.

The SSPC has deployed heavy artillery and intensified drone surveillance, heightening security risks for civilians and travellers in the area.

CPU/CPA has urged residents across Chin State and the Yaw region to prepare for potential airstrikes by constructing bomb shelters near their homes and remaining ready to take immediate cover when aircraft are detected.

Local sources further noted that since losing control of Mindat town in late 2024, the SSPC has increasingly relied on airpower rather than sustained ground offensives in the region. – Reporting by Ben
