Clashes resume near Sumhrang village, Falam township

19 January 2026 – Intense fighting reportedly broke out yesterday between the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military and the combined Chin revolutionary forces near Sumhrang village, Falam township, Chin State.

The SSPC military column, which advanced from Webula town, had been stationed near Sumhrang village, and the area had been relatively quiet for some time. 

However, clashes with the combined Chin revolutionary forces resumed yesterday, 18 January, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.

During yesterday’s fighting, the combined Chin revolutionary forces successfully captured two camp hills where the SSPC military was entrenched. Nevertheless, they were forced to retreat due to intense aerial bombardment and drone attacks by the SSPC military, according to a frontline source.

The source indicated that the SSPC military utilized seven drones of various sizes in their attacks, in addition to dropping four bombs from a jet fighter and approximately 23 bombs from a Y-12 aircraft.

A frontline source reported that the SSPC military suffered numerous casualties and injuries in yesterday’s battle. The combined Chin revolutionary forces also sustained some fatalities and injuries.

The SSPC military is launching an offensive to regain control of Falam town with two columns: one advancing from the Taingen side and another from the Webula side.

The SSPC military column advancing from Taingen village in Tedim township is positioned near Khuangli village in Falam township, while the group advancing from Webula town is stationed near Sumhrang village. – Reporting by Daniel
