Chin Youth Conferences to be held in Europe

17 July 2011: Hundreds of Chin youths living across Europe will join seminars and football tournaments to be held in Norway and Denmark hosted by Chin Christian communities from 27-31 this month.

A biennially held Chin youth conference in Norway is to take place in Stavanger with more than 400 people expected to participate while the 2nd Chin Europe Football Cup will be held as part of the Chin Seminar and Tournament in Esbjerg, Denmark.

Chin community leaders in Europe said the gatherings will give Chin youths chances to get to know each other better and create a platform for enhancing collaboration and unity in the future.

The five-day programmes include a series of paper presentations by invited speakers on spiritual, social, political and development issues, and a variety of youth activities such as football matches and women volleyballs.

A group of Chin youths from Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Switzerland and UK are also said to be joining the much-awaited assemblage.

Early this month, the sixth biennial conference of Chin Youth Organisation of North America was organised in Indianapolis, Indiana State of USA, with more than 2,000 participants from 2-3 July.

It is estimated that there are more than 2,500 Chins currently living across countries in Europe, with the majority coming from Malaysia as refugees under the UNHCR Resettlement programme after fleeing various forms of repressive measures perpetrated by the military authorities of Burma.
