Chin Youth Conference Commenced with Football Matches in USA
02 July 2011: The 6th Conference of Chin Youth Organisation of North America (CYONA) has just held its opening ceremony in Indianapolis, USA today with about 2,500 participants.
The much-awaited event saw veteran Chin MP in exile, Pu Lian Uk, cutting the ribbon to officially open the biennial gathering of Chin youths in the US and Canada after a prayer by pastor Lal Cung Awi.
“I am overjoyed to see you all here together. I have shed my tears but they are only happy tears. During this gathering, I believe you all will get to know each other better, and have stronger relationship and work in unity for the future of our people,” Pu Lian Uk told the audiences with lines of 12 football teams.
Salai Lairamthang, CYO President, told Chinland Guardian that it has been a busy yet successful morning with all the participants from different parts of the US and Canada, and they are happy that the programmes have been going well so far.
In the first few matches, Indiana played Ohio in a 2-0 victory while Kentucky beat New York by 5-4. Tennessee lost 7-1 to Iowa while Michigan won Missouri with a score of 4-1.
The two-day gathering will see a variety of sports and cultural talent competitions with a total of 27 different activities including Chin traditional wrestling and fashion show.
