Lightning Killed and Injured Locals in Gangaw
11 May 2011: A local from Taungkhinyan village in Gangaw Township was killed and another injured after lightning hit their bullock cart on their way home last Sunday.
The 18-year-old male was said to have died instantly while one of his friends, who was said to be ‘unconscious’, has just recovered, but with a black marked line crossing along his back, after receiving treatment, according to a Chin pastor, who visited Taungkhinyan village.
The Chin pastor told Chinland Guardian: “It was raining but we didn’t hear any lightning strikes. The victims said that they felt like they were hit by the flash coming along with the thunder.”
One of the oxen that pull the bullock cart was also said to have died right away.
Last year, a woman from Daidin village of Gangaw Township was killed by lightning while washing plates in her house.
Meanwhile, an elderly woman from Daidin village is being treated at Gangaw General Hospital after she and her son, Lian Thang, were attacked last Monday by a wild boar while working on their field.
In Hakha last Monday, Nyi Nyi Htwe, 46, from Kan village, Gangaw Township of Magwe Division was killed by four locals in the capital of Chin State, according to Khonumthung News.
