Hundreds Supported Chin Famine Concert In Denmark
Van Biak Thang(14 July 2009) The first two of a series of Chin Famine Live Aid Concerts in Europe were successfully held in Esbjerg and Saeby, Denmark, drawing hundreds of Chin and other supporters on 11 and 13 July 2009.
Four famous Chin singers, Sung Tin Par, Dawt Hlet Hniang, Mang Tin Sawn a.k.a. Solomon Menrihai and Cung Lian Thawng, last Saturday wowed the 400-odd strong crowd during the first Chin seminar and tournament organised and hosted by Chin Community in Denmark .
Last night, about 100 people turned up at a local concert hall in Saeby and nearby, where more than 130 Chin people live. Saeby, situated on the northern peninsula adjacent to Norway , is a small town with the biggest number of Chin people living in Denmark .
Khin Maung, Chairman of Chin Community in Denmark , told Chinland Guardian: “We are honoured to have this concert in Denmark to raise awareness and fund for the victims of food crisis in Chin State . The concert has drawn a lot more Chin people living in different corners of Denmark to come together and to make one voice for our people. We are very happy with the outcomes.”
“This is the very first time we have had this kind of concert entertained by famous Chin singers and we really enjoy it. We believe that the messages are well sent and received. This really not only brings us unity but also once again reminds us of our brothers and sisters who are suffering from food crisis in the remote jungles of Chin State .”
The concert started off with a special prayer and a short speech on the food crisis. It was rocked and enthralled by The Sun Band, a newly formed music band by Chin youths based in Denmark .
One Chin teenage commented on the concert, saying: “We feel that what we have seen on Youtube and Internet has come true and real. We are so excited and here for both the singers and victims of food crisis in our land.”
The quartets are set to have another series of concerts in Stavanger and Oslo in Norway, and Frankfurt in Germany .
Currently, there are more than 800 Chin people living in Denmark .
