9 January 2026 — The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) has officially allowed traffic to resume on the Kalay-Taingen-Tedim Road for vehicles traveling between Kalay and Tedim towns, effective from 7 January.
This main road had been closed since 19 May of the previous year. A Tedim resident confirmed the reopening started Wednesday evening, with cargo trucks arriving in Tedim town yesterday.
The move appears to be a formal authorization by the SSPC, which had been enforcing the closure.
Though Chin defence forces had previously allowed travel, the SSPC maintained a blockade for several months, beginning around May 2025, by establishing checkpoints and positioning troops past Khaikam town, at the base of Chin State.
This SSPC presence, including a checkpoint at the Kalay University archway, had prevented the transport of essential supplies like rice from Kalay town into Chin State, leading to food shortages and increased prices for local residents.
The reopening occurs despite recent fighting, as combined Chin armed revolutionary forces recently recaptured the SSPC camp on Kennedy Peak in Tedim township for the second time. However, SSPC troops are reportedly still stationed in Taingen village, Tedim township. – Reporting by Daniel
