27 November 2025 – Troops from the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) reportedly launched airstrikes and carried out arson attacks on civilian homes across Falam and Tedim townships.
The villages of Thungthul and Valung in Falam township, and Zawngkawng in Tedim township, were targeted with several houses being destroyed.
The SSPC column reportedly initiated an airstrike on Thungthul village before proceeding to burn down houses around 8:00 pm last night. Local residents who had already fled the area reported seeing significant smoke coming from the village.
“They bombed first and then set fire to the houses. Since there are no people in the village, we don’t know how many houses were burned down. All we know is that there was a lot of smoke coming out of the village and the SSPC military set it on fire,” a Falam township resident said.
The SAC forces are estimated to have comprised 200 to 300 troops. Fighting in the area has been ongoing for a week, causing all villagers to flee to safety. Thungthul village had previously sustained damage from at least two airstrikes in the days leading up to the arson attack.
The aerial campaign escalated on 27 November when the Myanmar military launched at least seven aerial bombardments in Falam township, following the previous night’s arson.
Local reports indicate that the airstrikes hit Valung and Zawngkawng villages. A community leader told the Chinland Guardian: “Military forces burned civilian homes in Thungthul village in the evening of November 26, and conducted seven airstrikes near Valung village this afternoon, 27 November, with detailed investigations ongoing into both events.”
The extent of the damage in Valung and Zawngkawng is unknown as all residents had been displaced by the fighting. These villages are located on the Taingen-Falam Road, and SSPC troops advancing from Taingen village have since arrived in Valung.
More than 20 villages along the Taingen-Falam road and the Webula-Falam road have been evacuated as residents continue to flee to safety. – Reporting by Daniel.
