25 November 2025 — The military council has tightened security across Gangaw town, Magway Region, as preparations continue for its planned election, raising concerns among residents about pressure and fairness.
Local sources report that police under the supervision of the Light Infantry Battalion 50 were stationed at all ward administration offices starting 20 November. These offices have been designated as polling stations for the December vote.
According to Zalen News, “Police have been guarding each office in teams of four. People feel they have no choice but to vote.”
Many town residents are reluctant to participate but fear consequences if they refuse, while nearby villages reportedly have no plans to vote.
In October, the military delivered voting machines to Gangaw town by helicopter. However, no training or public information has been provided on how the machines will be used.
