23 June 2009: A ten-year-old Chin refugee boy hit by a car while crossing the road in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia died in hospital on 16 June 2009.
Duh Hnin, a pre-class student of CSO (Chin Student Organisation), was hit by the car around 6 pm on 15 June 2009 as he was crossing the road with his elder siblings on their way to a church where a group of Chin evangelists 'Tluang Za Uk Group' from Burma were preaching.
One witness said of the accident in the Seihnam newsletter that it happened as he was trying to walk across the road, thinking that he would run fast enough to get to the other side. Sadly, he was knocked down as the car was running so fast.
He was immediately rushed to the nearby Kuala Lumpur Hospital. But he could not be saved as his head was severely injured. Duh Hnin passed away around 7am the next morning.
Duh Hnin, a refugee from Ralpel village of Thantlang township, Chin State, was described as 'a healthy, active and obedient boy' by his teachers at CSO.
Chin pastor Rev. Lal Pek Lian conducted his funeral service at Seremban Cemetery where more than 300 people attended alongside the bereaved family. He is survived by his parents, Pu Ro Lian and Pi Biak Thlia, and five siblings.
