8 March 2010: State-run radio and television broadcasts today announced the long-anticipated election laws, but short of providing details of the contents. The official television MRTV said that further details will be published in state-owned daily newspapers.
The election laws, according to the announcement, covers four major areas: laws governing the Election Commission, registration of political parties, the two Houses of National Parliament and the election of the State legislatures.
Burma’s military junta has said that it will hold fresh elections later this year but has not given the date.
